The Importance of Analysis. Why is analysis so important in developing eLearning? It’s because it is the foundation of the elearning/training business. Imagine a house without a foundation. It would sink, right? Well, the first building block of elearning development is analysis and learning your product well enough to teach it.

In the beginning phases of developing training, your analysis should consist of:

  • Making yourself aware of the learning styles of the employees you are about to train

  • Identifying your Subject Matter Experts (SME’s)

  • Learning about your learners. What do they currently know (if anything) about the product/what don’t they know

  • Going and doing. You, yourself should learn the product from an end user’s point of view

  • Starting to create objectives of the course; what should the learners get out of this training?

  • Identifying what materials – if any – currently exist?

  • Keeping in mind the product, identifying what part needs to be taught. Is it all of it? Is it a module?

  • Understanding what the platform of the delivery of the training? Classroom instruction, PC or Mobile?

By conducting a thorough analysis, you will be able to begin a foundation. Whether eLearning or instructor-led., these points should be grasped in order to win you a successful start on your training project.
